Welcome to our site!  We are breeders of AKC registered Chihuahuas in both smooth and long coats.  We do not keep a lot of dogs,so we are able to give each one lots of individual attention and TLC.  We breed to the AKC standard and try to produce a pup that would do well at AKC conformation events.

Beware of breeders offering CKC, APRI or other alternate registration papers.  Many Puppy Mills went to these less restrictive registries as they had falsified pedigrees and could not pass AKC's DNA and inspection requirements.  Regardless of where you get your pup, if your pup is registered with anything other than AKC or United Kennel Club, the chances of your pup being bred by an irresponsible breeder rises dramatically.

You cannot just breed two dogs together and expect to get great puppies!  This is very common in Chihuahuas and other small dogs.  People have seen that they are popular and just decide to start breeding with the two or three dogs they own. You will find many of these pups listed in your local paper or advertised on-line for "bargain" prices!   We have spent 27 years researching dogs and attended many seminars about dog breeding, structure, health, temperament and behavior!  We placed many of our first Chihuahuas in retirement homes without ever breeding them as they had extremely poor temperaments and health problems.

We strive to breed the BEST COMPANION CHIHUAHUA PUPS,  with excellent, outgoing, family oriented temperaments.  Many of our pups have show potential and are competative at AKC conformation events as well!

Breeding quality Chihuahuas is not an easy task.  In the litters there may be tiny "peanuts" that are only 3 to 4 pounds fully grown or large oversized pups that mature at 8 to 9 pounds.  The ideal Chihuahua for the show ring is 5 to 6 pounds at 1 year of age.  A good show potential pup should have an apple dome and most have a small molera about the size of a pea.

Chihuahua pups and small mixed breeds, can be fragile and if you are considering adding a Chihuahua to your family I suggest reading about the special care for toy breed pups.  Hypoglycemia is common, but easily prevented or treated at home.  Chihuahuas can do very well with children as long as the child is supervised by an adult when the dog is young.  A child that has not been taught the proper treatment of animals can easily injure a tiny pup by kicking or squeezing it, so you must evaluate your own personal situation.  For most families I recommend a bigger pup with an outgoing personality.

May people under estimate the size of their dog.  I have had people come with 9 to 10 pound dogs that they claim are no more then 5 pounds!  We are honest about our weights and sizes.  There are very few dogs that are under 3 pounds as adults.  A 3 pound dog is the same height as a pop can.

A happy well socialized pup requires a lot of time and effort.  Prospective parents are carefully selected for their overall looks, health and most importantly temperaments!  Too many toy breed pups are NOT GOOD COMPANION DOGS!  They are lacking in intelligence, barkey and in many cases biters!  Our pups are raised as part of our family.   Right from the start they receive gentle handling to get them used to being touched and held. We start puppy pad training as soon as they leave the whelping box.  Minnesota weather is usually not conducive to outdoor training for toy toy breeds as they become quickly chilled by damp cold ground.

Our puppies are vaccinated at 6 weeks of age for parvo distemper and corona.  They also receive and inter-nasal kennel cough vaccine.  The babies are wormed with Nemex at two week intervals, followed by a 3 day course of Panacur at 7 weeks of age.  Coccidia is a common puppy parasite causing a loose stool. It is usually seen when the pup moves to his new home and is known as stress diarrhea.   We keep our puppies on a coccidia medication to prevent this from happening.   Bigger pups are ready to go at 8 weeks of age while shy or tiny pups will stay here until they are 9 to 12 weeks old.

We strive to produce the healthiest happiest pup as possible.  Each pup has it's own individual personality and we want you to find the right puppy for your family!  Do not buy a puppy based solely on color or size.  A 1 to 2 pound difference means nothing if the pup is not a good match for your home!  We spend hours with our pups and know the personality of each. At 7 weeks of age the natural or inherited personality becomes apparent.  As a breeder we look at each puppy's aptitude and try to let prospective owners know what each individual pup will require as far as socialization and training.   Many people come to look at pups and base their judgment on a 20 to 30 minute visit.  Pups spend much of their time sleeping and tire quickly.  You may come to a pile of tired napping pups and not see the personality of each individual.  Please be  sure to tell us what you are looking for in your new family addition as well as giving us some information about your home, family and other pets!

We have a two year health guarantee against hereditary or congenital defects.
